Summer Opportunity for K-12 Teachers

The Interfaith Center of New York and Union Theological Seminary are delighted to announce a new educational program, funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. In July of 2012, we will host an N.E.H. summer institute for schoolteachers, entitled Religious Worlds of New York: Teaching the Everyday Life of American Religious Diversity. This innovative program will help public, private, and parochial school teachers teach more effectively about the rich religious diversity of the United States. It will introduce participants to religious traditions that are part of the fabric of American life, help them distinguish between academic and devotional approaches to the study of religion, and offer them the pedagogic tools they need to teach their students about lived religion, in addition to the conventional world religions curriculum. Summer Opportunity for Seminarians, Graduate School Mentors, and Religious Leaders

Interfaith Youth Initiative (IFYI) is seeking applications from seminarians, graduate school mentors, and religious leaders for full-time staff positions at our dynamic ten-day exploration of peacemaking, vocation, interfaith dialogue, spirituality, service, urban immersion, and leadership training. IFYI focuses on 5 Core Values: Building Bridges, Training Leaders, Engaging Faith, Making Peace, and Serving Others. IFYI is a program of Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries, in partnership with Episcopal Divinity School, the Brandeis Interfaith Chaplaincy, and Harvard Pluralism Project.

IFYI is scheduled July 7-16, 2012 at Brandeis University (Waltham, MA) on the Theme: “The Way of Courage and Compassion”

Staff positions require participation in two planning sessions and a conference call during the Spring.

Students learn to organize the Better Together campaign on campus to mobilize large numbers of students to engage in interfaith action; change campus by raising the volume on interfaith cooperation as a priority; and grow as interfaith leaders. This scholarship recognizes young adults across the continent who are actively engaged in important work at the high school, college, graduate, and professional level.

If you are passionate about interfaith work, we welcome your energy and enthusiasm and encourage you to apply! You do not need to be part of a NAIN member organization to apply. Recipients are selected by the NAIN Young Adult Committee, according to the directives of the NAIN Board of Directors. UCSIA Summer School on “Culture, Religion and Society” - Call for Applicants

Summer Opportunity for Young Scholars and Researchers

It is evident that religion, culture and society are strongly interwoven and are crucial for understanding the contemporary world. With globalization touching all aspects of our lives, religion(s) and culture(s) have to understand their position in this complex globalizing process. It is the aim of the interdisciplinary UCSIA summer school to better understand the dynamic interplay between the macro- and micro-social developments concerning religion that take place in much of the contemporary world. This year the program will focus on the topic of Secularism(s) and Religion in Society.

Guest lecturers: Rajeev Bhargava (Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi), Peggy Levitt (Wellesley College), Robert W. Hefner (Boston University) and John Hutchinson (London School of Economics).

Practical details: Participation and stay for young scholars and researchers are free of charge. Participants should pay for their own travel expenses to Antwerp.

NAINConnect 2012 - North American Interfaith Network

Save the date! The 2012 NAIN Connect will be held July 15th-18th in Atlanta, Georgia. It will be hosted by the Interfaith Community Institute (ICI) of Atlanta with the theme "Establishing Interfaith Friendly Cities". The Local Planning Committee invites NAIN members and affiliates to offer proposals for topics, panelists, and presenters congruent with the theme and other categories.
